All Local, All The Time
The Niwot Trot 5k run/walk is back for its 15th year following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This family-friendly race annually draws over 500 participants, both from Niwot Elementary School families and the community-at-large.
The race is a unique celebration of Niwot's community investment in being healthy and active across all generations. The 5km (3.1mile) race starts and finishes at Whistle Stop Park in downtown Niwot and will be held this year at 9:00 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 2.
Runners will enjoy an out and back course that is flat and fast, perfect for both those interested in racing the clock or simply enjoying the beautiful landscape at a leisurely pace. Professionally timed, the race features a youth-centric awards ceremony where the fastest girl and boy in each grade are recognized with prizes, thanks to the generosity of local sponsors.
Additionally, there are finisher medals for all youth finishers (because 3 miles is far for young legs), as well as free pre-race coffee and post-race ice cream for all. Payton Johnson, a participant and current Niwot High School 9th-grader recalls, "The Niwot Trot has evolved from a school-focused event to a community-wide celebration where everyone is welcome. It will certainly bring a smile to your face."
All proceeds support the Niwot Elementary Parent Teacher Advisory Council (PTAC), providing para instruction for each grade level. Bring the whole family out for a gorgeous morning of high energy positivity and school pride. Register online at http://www.niwotptac.com to secure a t-shirt while supplies last. Race day registration will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m. onsite at Whistle Stop Park.
