All Local, All The Time
The Niwot Community Association (NCA) held its monthly board meeting Oct. 5 in the Mountain View Fire Rescue Niwot Station conference room.
The board welcomed two new members. Vicky Dorvee will join the board as the director for Trails and Open Space. Dorvee is often seen on the trails around Niwot, with her husband Jim Dorvee, as they walk their dogs.
Jeff Server is the new Area 4 representative. Area 4 is bounded by Niwot Road on the north, State Highway 52 on the south, 79th Street on the west and 95th Street on the east. Server and his wife Dawn Server own Meadow Lake Honey in Niwot.
It’s going to be another successful year for the Veteran’s Banner Project with over 25 banners honoring local veterans displayed along 2nd Avenue and in Cottonwood Square. There are likely to be a dozen banners from families honoring their veterans for the first time and over a dozen returning banners. A ceremony will be held in Cottonwood Square at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6.
The NCA set Oct. 8 as the work day to maintain the mural under Niwot Road. Work will begin with peeling and repainting areas of a single color that have deteriorated. Detailed painting will take place on a future date. Both Ellen Haswell, the artist who coordinated the last restoration, and Denise Chamberlain, the artist who created the Niwot mural on the Excel building, have been consulted on the project.
Several local artists are going to help with the detail work. The final step will be to apply a protective coating over the entire mural. The NCA has taken responsibility for maintaining the mural, which was originally created by artist Brea Thiele before she relocated to Australia.
The NCA continues to donate money to other community organizations, with a contribution to the Niwot Nifties and a vote to continue the annual contribution to the Left Hand Grange No. 9.
The NCA Road Crew will manage the street closures for the Niwot Pumpkin Party on Oct. 29 and the Holiday Parade on Nov. 26. The NCA will have a table at each event where members of the community can visit with NCA board members.
Area Representatives (board members who represent particular areas in Niwot) continue to work with neighbors to facilitate communications. Area 5 representative John Barto has continued to help Niwot Youth Sports communicate with the neighborhood on the planned construction project at Hangge Fields at Monarch Park.
Area 7 representative Liz Marr collected information about the proposed Boulder Public Library District 6C ballot issue and distributed it to neighbors. Most of Niwot will not vote on this issue because it is not withing the proposed district boundaries, but part of Area 7 is within the district.
Membership director Johnny Barrett reported three new members, bringing the total number of NCA members to 361.
Board meetings are generally held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Mountain View Fire Protection District firehouse #4 (8500 Niwot Road in Niwot.
NCA members are encouraged to attend monthly board meetings and the public is welcome. If you wish to speak or want a specific issue discussed, please contact the NCA board one week in advance of the meeting to be included on the agenda.
