All Local, All The Time
A small grass fire broke out Oct. 20 north of Boulder in the Lakeridge Trail area at about Nelson Road and Highway 36. At approximately 2 p.m., fire crews and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the area.
Fire crews requested air assistance due to the dry, hot weather and the proximity of the fire to homes in the area, including the Lake of the Pikes neighborhood. The 19-acre fire was on private land and has been contained.
An Evacuation Warning was issued for the area. Mountain Ridge Drive, Lakeridge Trail, and Highway 36 between Neva Road and Nelson Road were closed for part of the afternoon.
Smoke was felt throughout the area including Niwot and Gunbarrel. No structures were burned except for 100-150 feet of a wooden fence.
The fire was 100% contained at approximately 5:30 p.m. according to the Boulder Sheriff’s Office’s Twitter feed.
Fire crews included the Left Hand Fire District, the U.S. Forest Service, Boulder County Fire Management, Boulder Fire-Rescue, and the fire departments of Lyons, Allenspark, Hygiene, Four Mile, Jamestown, Gold Hill, and Boulder Mountain.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
