All Local, All The Time
The dedication of the Niwot Parking Lot, located west of the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Murray Street in Niwot, has been set for Friday, Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. Niwot Business Association President Eric Bergeson will be on hand to recognize the contributions of Chuck Klueber, NBA Streetscapes Coordinator, Chad Fletemeyer, of Fletemeyer & Lee Associates, a local architectural firm, and others in the acquisition of the property and construction of the parking lot.
The lot provides 14 parking spaces for employees of Niwot businesses as well as visitors to the downtown area. Two electric charging stations provide up to two hours of free charging time, while two handicapped parking spaces are located on the south side of the lot.
The project was initiated by the Niwot Cultural Arts Association (NCAA), which entered into a contract with Burlington Northern to purchase a 2-acre site along the east side of the railroad tracks. The NCAA then assigned the contract to Boulder County, which purchased the property with funds from the Niwot Local Improvement District (LID).
The initial phase of the project provides 14 parking spaces, but county land use approval has been granted to extend the parking lot north to provide a total of 50 parking spaces, when there is a demonstrated need. The balance of the 2-acre property is available for temporary parking for events in Niwot, including the popular Rock & Rails summer concert series, co-managed by the NCAA and the Niwot Business Association.
The NBA pays for the electricity used by the charging stations, and also collects a small amount of revenue for charging use in excess of two hours. The NBA also maintains the parking lot and the remainder of the 2-acre parcel, with funding from the LID.
