All Local, All The Time

New Book Fair for adults

Do you miss the Scholastic Book Fair that showed up at your school every year? The time when you got to see all the newest children’s books, comics, and toys? It’s one of those happy childhood memories that makes us wish that there were more book fairs for adults like us.

The Wandering Jellyfish Bookshop has a surprise for you: they are hosting the “Goodies for Grown-ups” at Cimmini’s restaurant on Thursday, Dec. 15 from 5-7 p.m. Hundreds of books of multiple genres will be featured at the book fair including titles from best-selling authors such as Celeste Ng, Octavia E. Butler, Anthony Doerr, Emily Henry, Bell Hooks, and more. T

here will also be free appetizers from 5-6 p.m., paid for by the Wandering Jellyfish team. Cimmini’s will be selling book-themed cocktails and mocktails. The event will be held in a reserved room that’s separated from other customers.

“It was all Ally’s idea to start a book fair. She’s great at coming up with ideas for the community and is always helpful around the kids,” said Wandering Jellyfish co-founder Jerilyn Patterson. Ally Cave, the assistant store manager, is often found wearing overalls and smiling at the front desk.

“We’re also trying to expand our book section for adults and we thought the book fair might be a good idea to let customers know that,” co-founder Carissa Mina added.

“At first, we had trouble finding a venue to feature the book fair. Until one day, Carrisa and I decided to go have lunch at Cimmini’s and when we sat down, we thought, ‘Why don’t we host the event here?’” Patterson explained. Collaboration was never a problem as they were already friends with the owner.

“This is really just supposed to be a fun event where adults can get together and talk about books, enjoy free appetizers, and maybe get dinner at Cimmini’s afterwards,” said Mina. In the future, they hope to host more book fairs and invite local authors to do book signings. In the meantime, treat yourself or do your holiday shopping at “Goodies for Grown-ups.”
