All Local, All The Time
The Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band traveled to Denver for the holiday season, performing at Denver's Christkindl Market at Civic Center Park Dec. 11.
Twenty-five members of the band made the trip to the event, sponsored by the German American Chamber of Commerce and the German Cultural Foundation, for the first time since the pandemic.
The band performed to children dancing while parents patronized street vendors with an Old World flair. Selections included "A Can-Can Christmas," "A Jazzy Christmas," and "Christmas on Parade," as well as traditional favorites "Angels We Have Heard on High" and "Joy to the World." A new addition to this year's program was "Santa Baby."
The band performed the same set in Niwot on Enchanted Evening, during and after the holiday parade, and at The Wheel House during the Holiday Market. Each concert included the band's traditional ending tune, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida," which, loosely translated, is "In the Garden of Eden."
Debbie Benson conducted the first three performances, while former CU drum major Jessica Fischer conducted the Christkindl Market performance.
