All Local, All The Time
The Niwot Community Association (NCA) has a full calendar of events for 2023 which are all open to the public. One event in particular, the annual Niwot Clean-up Day on May 20, is free for members and is a great reason to join the NCA.
Roll-off dumpsters will again be set up in the Niwot High School parking lot so that members of the community can drive through to unload a variety of materials which might otherwise end up in a landfill. That includes yard waste, branches, and much more. Staff will be on hand to help unload vehicles as needed. Details will be available soon.
The annual meeting of the NCA will take place at the Left Hand Grange on Wednesday, April 19 at 7 p.m. Elections will take place for the offices of Vice-President and Treasurer. The NCA has divided Niwot into eight geographic areas which each have a representative on the NCA board. Representatives are elected every two years, with representatives of odd-numbered areas elected in odd calendar years, and even-numbered areas elected in even years.
You can see who your area representative is in the Contact tab of the NCA website at
The NCA annual meeting is a great chance to meet the board and other NCA members.
The second annual Slepicka Tractor Show will be held in June. You may have wondered about all the tractors in the yard at 6675 N. 79th Street. The Slepicka family has been collecting them for many years. This open yard event will give community members a chance to walk around and see these machines up close and get questions answered by the experts.
Tuesday, July 4, is the date of the NCA's biggest event, the annual Fourth of July Parade. In partnership with other organizations in town, the NCA puts on a very popular parade including fire trucks, marching bands and entries from many organizations and residents in the area. Children will be able to decorate their bicycles and be in the parade.
Everyone will be entertained by the music of the Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band during a pancake breakfast in front of Niwot Market to begin a full day of festivities.
In August the NCA will host the annual National Night Out. This national-wide event is a chance to build a sense of community with local first responders and law enforcement. There will be free food, demonstrations of equipment and information booths from a number of community and county organizations. The Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band will again provide musical entertainment.
During October and November the NCA will once again collaborate with the Niwot Business Association to arrange for the hanging of banners honoring veterans of the United States Armed Forces who have local connections. The Veteran Banner Project provides a way for people to purchase a custom-made banner honoring the veteran of their choice. The banners are hung from street posts downtown and in Cottonwood Square throughout November.
The NCA membership year begins on March 1. If you plan to make use of Clean-up Day in May, keep in mind that membership pays more than pays for it. That's not the only reason to join. Members will also be able to vote at the annual meeting in April, and will be part of an organization that listens to community members and works with the county government and other agencies in order to keep officials well informed on what the community of Niwot thinks.
