Easter egg hunt at Niwot High

Last Saturday, hundreds of people flocked to Niwot High School for the annual pancake breakfast and Easter egg hunt, sponsored by The Niwot Group. This is the 44th edition of the event, and it's back to its pre-COVID popularity.

Pat Murphy of The Niwot Group - Compass has organized and orchestrated the community event for over 40 years. Murphy estimated that there were nearly 1,000 people who attended Saturday's festivities. "In one group I counted 200 kids," she said.

The egg hunt was divided by age groups across the various NHS sports fields. According to Murphy, the Easter event is a thank you to the community, especially those who have supported her real estate business over the years. In addition to the pancake breakfast and egg hunt, there was also a petting zoo, and all of this was possible thanks to the volunteers.

At least 75 people helped, many from the newly organized Niwot Community Connection group Murphy was instrumental in forming. Volunteers helped set up and run the event–from dying and hiding the 1500 hard boiled eggs to flipping the pancakes.

"Some of my helpers have been doing it for a long long time," said Murphy. "It's the next generation coming through and that's good, and the first generation's kids are now helping."

Murphy added that in addition to thanking the community, the event is special for her because of the kids–she said that a friend's grandchild enjoyed this year's event so much, he said it was the best day of his life.

"It takes a village to put it on," Murphy said. "And we just love to make memories for our families."
