All Local, All The Time
The Niwot High School girls soccer team was slated to have two games this week against the Mountain View Mountain Lions, and the Severance Silver Knights, but due to the poor weather conditions last Tuesday, the Mountain View game was postponed to May 5. The Cougar's game against the Silver Knights still went on, and the result was a 9-0 blowout that snapped Niwot's losing streak.
Niwot's nine goals came from various players, while freshman goaltender Mariah Fletemeyer posted her second shutout of the year. Senior Tiffany Yie scored a hat trick (three goals) including the game's last goal, while junior Paige Russell scored two goals.
Senior Alexandria Boyer, sophomore Victoria Villavicencio, and freshman Heather Humphrey each scored one goal to aid in the rout. Along with their goals, Boyer and Villavicencio got assists while junior Menbere Sullivan recorded an assist of her own.
Niwot's game against Severance provided a much-needed turnaround to the season, allowing the Cougars to regroup and win their first league game. Niwot is now 2-4 for the year, but with games scheduled against evenly-matched teams in Northridge and Riverdale Ridge next week, it's not out of the picture for Niwot to bring its record back to .500.
Niwot's match against Riverdale Ridge will be a home game at 6:30 p.m.on Tuesday while the game against Northridge will be at Northridge at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
