The Niwot High School girls soccer team played two games this past week, playing both the Riverdale Ridge Ravens and the Northridge Grizzlies. Niwot started the week after a 9-0 win against Severance High School, so expectations were high during their game against Riverdale Ridge.
The game was close in the first half, which ended with Riverdale Ridge ahead 3-2, with senior Tiffany Yie and Senior Martha McCarthy scoring for Niwot, but the Ravens put the game away with two more goals in the second half while holding the Cougars scoreless. The 5-2 loss gave Niwot a 2-5 record against the 6-3 Ravens.
Niwot's next game was against Northridge, but the Cougar offense was shut down in a 2-0 loss. The Grizzlies are 5-2-1 on the season, underscoring what was a challenging week for Niwot. Niwot has seven games left on the schedule, so the season outcome is up in the air.
Head coach Stephen Dimit said, "I think that the team can pick up some wins in the upcoming games. We played a strong game against Northridge, which is the top team in our league in the past few years. After that performance, we know that we are making progress." It's clear that the team is still optimistic with much of the season remaining.
Niwot has two games next week: an away game Tuesday against the Fort Morgan High School Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. and a home game Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against the Frederick High School Golden Eagles.
