All Local, All The Time
Niwot High School has appointed Dr. Felicia Reimer as the new Dean of Students for the Fall of 2023. "It's the first time [Niwot High School] has ever had a Dean of Students," said Principal Eric Rauschkolb. "Our enrollment will be at about 1,450 students, which is the biggest [Niwot High School] has ever been."
The role of Dean of Students will be similar to that of an assistant principal, helping with attendance initiatives, behavior support, and academic support for students. With a lot of highly qualified applicants, candidates underwent a very thorough screening process before narrowing them down to five individuals for an in-person interview.
After interviews, the interview team, made up of staff from Niwot High School, sent two candidates to the superintendent, Dr. Don Haddad, for final selection.
Dr. Reimer received her Bachelor of Arts from Texas Christian University and earned her Master's Degree from Middlebury College in Spanish Language and Literature. Reimer also has a PhD in Foreign Language Education from the University of Texas at Austin and received her principal license at the University of Colorado at Denver.
"I am looking forward to drawing on all my previous experiences in education," said Dr. Reimer, "and what I've learned over the past nine years about community building, relationship building, and the importance of building connections with parents and teachers as well as relationships with librarians, administrators, and all departments of the school."
Dr. Reimer is currently an Assistant Principal in Jeffco Public Schools at Pomona High School, and prior to that taught Spanish at Dakota Ridge High School as the school was establishing its IB (International Baccalaureate) program, which is also offered at Niwot High School.
Dr. Reimer moved to Colorado in 2007 from Texas and loves to hike, garden, and be outdoors. "I'm excited to get up to the town this summer to explore the town and community," she said. With a 13-year-old daughter starting high school, we get to be [9th graders] together."
Reimer added, "It feels like it (getting this position) was meant to be as I am also left-handed."
