All Local, All The Time

NBA looks forward

Pat Murphy and the crew at Niwot Real Estate - Compass hosted the May meeting of the Niwot Business Association May 9.

NBA president Eric Bergeson introduced Angela Hudgins, who has been contracted to serve as the new Administrative Coordinator for the NBA and other non-profit organizations. He also discussed the recent transition of the http://www.niwot.com website to a new format.

Bergeson noted that an NBA focus group has been formed to look at the website, headed by NBA vice-president Deb Fowler. NBA members were encouraged to contact Fowler with any questions or concerns about the new website.

Bergeson also described recent efforts with the Boulder County Commissioners, CDOT, RTD and Boulder County Public Works to include an underpass to Niwot from the planned bikeway in the median of the Diagonal Highway. He felt that the commissioners had listened to the comments from Niwot residents and organizations, and noted that work by Fletemeyer & Lee Associates, funded by the Local Improvement District, had been helpful in proposing a workable solution.

Alison Steele of Niwot Market spoke about the upcoming Downhill Mile, which will be held on July 4th, starting at Niwot High School, and finishing at Cottonwood Square, where the Niwot Community Association hosts the annual Pancake Breakfast with a concert by the Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band, followed by a parade with hundreds of children on decorated bicycles.

Steele noted that sponsorships of the race are still available, and start at $250. She acknowledged some problems with last year's event, and said some changes have been made. "We've got better signs at side streets, and we will have volunteers there to help people find alternative routes. They will also move the signs to allow traffic to pass once the runners have passed."

Runners can also purchase a ticket to the pancake breakfast as part of their registration for the race this year. Proceeds from the breakfast will be designated by the NCA for a local project.

The meeting concluded with "speed-dating" among members, coordinated by Dancing Under the Stars coordinator Catherine McHale, where NBA members spent five minutes getting to know another NBA member before each moving on to another match-up.
