Another successful Clean-Up Day

Niwot Clean-Up Day saw favorable weather Saturday, May 20, and a large amount of household waste recycled or sent to the landfill.

"Another year and another successful NCA Clean-Up Day event," said event manager, John Barto. "I think everything went very well, and it was great to have such amazing volunteers. We couldn't do it without the help of our NCA members, the [drumline], and the scouts." There were approximately thirty volunteers helping this event operate smoothly.

Barto mentioned that this was the best year in terms of consistent traffic flow without having everyone show up first thing in the morning. "There was a steady flow of people throughout the day but we never overflowed onto Niwot Road which I think is a huge success," he said.

Around 170 participants were in attendance at this year's Clean-Up Day event, not including volunteers, between 8 a.m. and 12 noon. The event saw Niwot residents load two dumpsters full of yard waste debris, four dumpsters full of wood and other discarded material, as well as one dumpster which was filled to the top with scrap metal. Eleven mattresses were dropped off, large quantities of styrofoam were gathered, several boxes of electronics were collected to fill a large truck, plus a trailer full of paint was filled.

"I love doing this for the community," Barto added, "and the volunteers enjoy helping the community out as well. The donuts and pizza we have available doesn't hurt, either. We look forward to doing this again next year."
