NBA's Around the World Day brings shoppers to Niwot

Saturday May 20 was a busy day in Niwot starting with the Niwot Community Association's annual Clean-Up Day, followed by the Niwot Business Association's Around the World Day, and concluding with an open house at the Left Hand Grange and a street concert by the House Blend Band on 2nd Avenue.

Around the World Day, which began during the pandemic as the brainchild of NBA vice-president Deb Fowler as a way to bring shoppers to Niwot, provided the community with a reason to enjoy the spring weather and visit shops and restaurants, which adopted countries around the world for a day.

Horse-drawn carriage rides were popular, especially with the younger set, and the Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band handed out edible prizes to listeners in Cottonwood Square who could identify places around the world associated with the songs the band performed.

Musicians performed throughout the business district during the day, including a pianist-vocalist at the Left Hand Grange in connection with the open house. The day ended around 9 p.m. as the House Blend Band of the Old Oak Coffeehouse closed its second set before an appreciative crowd.
