All Local, All The Time
More art is coming to Niwot as summer begins. Open Studios, a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting artists and enhancing and enriching the visual arts in Boulder County, in cooperation with the Niwot Cultural Arts Association, is bringing its annual members' show to the former feed store on 2nd Avenue.
The exhibit features work from the more than 205 member artists who participate in the organization. It includes work in a variety of mediums, ranging from watercolor, paint on acrylic, mixed-medium and jewelry-making, to vintage pieces, including ceramic and glass.
The members' tour will open this Friday, June 9, with a reception from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and then the venue will remain open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Throughout the exhibit, artists' work will be available for sale.
The art-filled event concludes on July 7 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. with a grand finale closing event and fundraiser that coincides with the first Friday Artwalk. It will include a silent auction and artists will produce 6X6 miniature works for sale and other artwork from the community. The funds will be used to support Open Studios' outreach to the schools throughout Boulder County and in underserved neighborhoods.
Mary Horrocks, Executive Director of Open Studios, said that the membership-based program was developed as a response to what was happening in 2020. "During Covid we provided a lot of online services and outdoor events. We did everything we could to keep artists connected to the public," Horrocks explained. "It proved to be extremely popular. So when we got back to running live events, a lot of artists wanted us to continue the membership platform. So we did."
She said the artists are looking forward to their upcoming Niwot-based show. Open Studios had an exhibit at the feed store during the 2022 holiday season as well. "They're excited to have an opportunity to exhibit. Meeting new people who might potentially be interested in their artwork is always a good thing. And with these member shows, because there is a range of mediums, attendees can view a range of styles. It's fun for the public to come and see."
