All Local, All The Time

Fourth of July Niwot Downhill Mile up ahead

If you're looking for something to do in the morning on Independence Day, the Niwot Downhill Mile might be it. Whether it be running with family, friends, or by yourself, it is a fun and inclusive activity for everyone.

The Niwot Downhill Mile begins on Niwot Road at Niwot High School, and ends at the Niwot Market. The race is a point-to-point downhill mile, and registration is easy. Simply visit http://www.raceroster.com to register. You may also register the day of the race from 6:45 a.m.to 8:15 a.m. at the Niwot Market parking lot. The race begins at 8:30 a.m.

The proceeds from this event, including the pancake breakfast, will be going back to the local Niwot community. The Niwot Mile is about raising funds for those who need it. For example, last year's cause was giving back to the communities of Colorado that were affected by the Marshall Fire.

Over $1000 in prize money will be awarded this year. These cash prizes go to top winners in men's and women's categories, as well as master winners (anyone over 40 is considered a master).

Trophies will also be awarded to the top male and female high school athletes. Completion ribbons and goody bags will be provided to those who register in addition to the t-shirt provided at registration. Race packets as well as shirt pickup times and locations are listed on the registration website.

Niwot Road will be closed from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. on July 4th and the Niwot Market will be full of hungry athletes after the race. The pancake breakfast will be held in front of the Market starting at 7:30 a.m. and continuing to 10:30 a.m. Runners are able to include the cost of the breakfast when they register for the race, or they may pay at the breakfast. Children four years old and under will be served breakfast for free.

This community-based event is a fun way to start your Independence Day activities. Niwot is all for togetherness and community, and the goal for this event is to bring people together to do something with meaning.
