All Local, All The Time
Niwot Independence Day festivities kicked off at 8:30 a.m. with the annual Niwot Downhill Mile race. The Downhill Mile started at Niwot High School and ended at the Niwot Market with a crowd of participants. The first place winners were 25-year-old Billy Ulrich, who finished in 4 minutes, 8 seconds; and 42-year-old Sarah Piampiano, who finished in 5 minutes, 11 seconds.
Kim Mangrobang finished second and Melissa Mazzo finished in third place in the women's category. Jonathan Aziz finished second and Macklin Chaffee finished in third place in the men's category. Winners received cash prizes and trophies. All participants received goody bags, completion ribbons and t-shirts to commemorate the event.
"The event was set up by the Niwot Business Association and some other local leaders in Niwot," said Henry Guzman who was responsible for coordinating the race. "The run is really just this fun event where people can hang out at the festival in Niwot and eat pancakes and whatnot. It's a great way to get people together and celebrate the 4th of July."
