All Local, All The Time

National Night Out connects law enforcement with the community

On Tuesday, Aug. 1, Niwot will host its annual National Night Out from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Murray Street between Second and Third Avenues.

National Night Out is an annual community-building national campaign that promotes community relationships between residents and law enforcement and other first responders. The event creates an opportunity to get to know local law enforcement and create camaraderie and community.

Niwot is just one of several National Night Out sites sponsored by the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, which is partnering with the Niwot Community Association (NCA) for the fifth year in Niwot.

"The event will be very similar to years past, with lots of first responders on hand to chat and demonstrate their equipment," said David Limbach, President of the Niwot Community Association. "One of the positives about this event is that it gives students the opportunity to chat with their SROs (Student Resource Officer) and to not feel intimidated by them at school. The event is also great for younger kids to climb into a firetruck and to meet the first-responder animals."

First responders will be available to meet with residents including members of the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Longmont Emergency Unit, Mountain View Fire Rescue, Colorado State Patrol, Boulder County Sheriff's SWAT team and the Sheriff's K-9 team.

Niwot-based Nacho Mama's Tacos truck will again be cooking hamburgers and hot dogs, which will be served free to all attendees along with assorted side dishes and lemonade. The NCA will provide give-aways for children and sign up information for the Veterans Banner Project.

A team of "Gargoyle" student volunteers will be present to help manage the separation of waste and compostable material, and other local volunteer organizations will be on hand, including the Niwot Community Connection and the Niwot Rotary. Enjoy an evening of community and fun with musical entertainment provided by The Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band, whose set list includes "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," "Fire," "Danger Zone," 'Stayin' Alive," and "Hang On Sloopy."
