All Local, All The Time
Hundreds of people turned out for the Celebration of Life for Bert Steele on Aug. 20 at the Knaus Farm on Nimbus Road, with a bluegrass band providing background music both before and after remarks and remembrances by family and friends.
The much-loved principal owner of The Niwot Market died Aug. 7 after a short illness. But the tributes to Steele, focusing on how he treated people and how he served the community, haven't ended.
On Saturday, Aug. 26, Bluegrass for Bert will be held in Cottonwood Square Shopping Center, featuring live music from five bands performing from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., with each band adding a bit of bluegrass to its set, to honor Steele's favorite genre.
The free concert, produced by Cottonwood Concerts, LLC, and Stacy Szydiek and Tara Shaheen of Niwot Tavern, is described as a tribute to Steele, considered by most as Niwot's "unofficial mayor."
