Niwot High School boys soccer started strong as the Cougars continue to pile up wins on the season, with their most recent coming against the George Washington High School Patriots this past Wednesday with a 2-1 victory. Niwot is now 3-0 on the season, with all three games varying with ease.
This was Niwot's closest game to date this season, with Niwot holding on at the end of the game to squeak by. Senior Josh Rodriguez was able to get an early goal that was assisted by senior Bo Gardner. The early lead didn't last long, as George Washington was able to sneak a shot past Malachi Gilmore to tie the game 1-1 at the half.
Rodriguez was able to net another goal after the break, assisted by Noah Beltran, which gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead. Niwot played defensively throughout the rest of the game with Gilmore making highlight save after highlight save. Niwot was able to hold on and win the game 2-1.
Both of Niwot's goals were scored by Rodriguez, with Gardner and Beltran both getting assists. Gilmore played all 80 minutes in goal with eight shots on net, and with only one getting by, he ended with an impressive 87.5% save percentage.
Niwot is on pace for a great 2023-24 season as the Cougars are undefeated after three games, but some challenging games against out of league opponents will put the perfect record to the test. Niwot's next game will come against the Denver North Vikings next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.at Denver North High School.
