All Local, All The Time
Niwot High School's annual homecoming festivities are a joy to both witness, and be a part of. This year's theme is "A Night in New Orleans," more commonly known as Mardi Gras. Niwot's student council team, sponsored by counselor Leah Messinger, has been working hard planning events, choosing spirit week activities, and more.
Wednesday's spirit day theme is "Western Wednesday." Western-style hats are welcome and encouraged. Wednesday's activities are "Senior Night" and two sports events held at NHS. Gymnastics will be competing at 5:30 p.m. and Niwot High's girls volleyball team will play a home game at 6:30 p.m.
Thursday's spirit day theme is a bit cozier with the title of "Night Before the Party." More commonly known as PJ day, students are welcomed to dress as comfortably as they'd like in preparation for the celebrations to come.
Friday is when all of the pre-dance fun happens. Right after school gets out at 3:00 p.m., the homecoming parade will start, and anyone is welcome to come and watch as Niwot's homecoming royalty and floats go by. The parade route starts at Niwot High School, and proceeds into Morton Heights, passing Niwot Elementary School before heading west on Niwot Road past Cottonwood Square, then proceeding down 2nd Avenue to Murray Street, and heading north, ending at 5th Avenue. Niwot Road will be briefly closed.
Once the parade comes to a close, there will be a showing of the movie "The Princess and the Frog" in the commons of the school for students to watch with friends at 4:30 p.m. There will also be a community tailgate at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The homecoming football game will start at 7:00 p.m. at Niwot High School's field when the Cougars (2-1) host Eagle Valley High School(1-3).
Saturday begins with a softball game at 10 a.m. with the Cougars hosting Severance High School. Coach Bobby Matthews has invited all NHS softball alums to attend the game and take part in an alumni game following the Severance game.
Saturday at 12 noon, Niwot baseball is hosting an alumni gathering to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the school's first of five state Class 4A titles. A barbecue at the NHS baseball field, which has recently been refurbished, is planned, with an alumni game to follow.
The Niwot High homecoming dance begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23. Tickets are $20 at the door, and the dance goes from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. in Niwot's large gym. Find more information on Niwot High's Student Council Instagram, @niwotstuco.
