Niwot High School boys soccer was able to bounce back from a tough week with a win at home against the Roosevelt High School Rough Riders this past Tuesday, Sept. 19. The Cougars dominated in their win as they easily got past Roosevelt with a 3-0 victory. Niwot had more trouble on Thursday, Sept. 21, as they fell to the Northridge High School Grizzlies, 2-1 at Northridge. Niwot is now 4-2-2 on the year, an impressive start given their strength of schedule.
Niwot's Tuesday match with Roosevelt was a much-needed victory for Niwot as they were coming off their first loss of the year last week. It took a while for the Cougars to strike the back of the net at first, notching their first goal close to 30 minutes into the game, but their second goal came right after that giving Niwot a 2-0 lead going into the half. Niwot played more conservatively in the second half, making sure not to blow the lead, yet the Cougars continued to score, winning 3-0.
Niwot's next game started strong just as it did on Tuesday, with Paris Lee scoring early off an assist by Moy Ramirez to give the Cougars a lead at halftime, 1-0. But Niwot failed to hold onto the lead as Northridge scored two goals in the second half and shut out the Cougars to win the game, 2-1. The loss dropped the Cougars' record to 4-2-2 on the year.
Seniors Jett Feiner and Moy Ramirez led the team in points this week, with Ramirez getting a goal against Roosevelt along with an assist against Northridge, and Feiner getting a goal and an assist against Roosevelt. Senior Josh Rodriguez was able to add to his goal total on Tuesday while senior Paris Lee was able to get a goal against Northridge and an assist against Roosevelt. Senior Bo Gardner was able to grab an assist as well against Roosevelt.
Niwot's goaltending was excellent this week as both Malachi Gilmore and Lucas Willard were able to combine for a shutout on Tuesday, while Gilmore was also able to shut out Northridge over 55 minutes. Under a bombardment of shots in the second half by Northridge, Willard let two get into the net.
Niwot plays two games next week as they take on Severance High School at home on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. Severance is 0-6-1 this season, so Niwot should have an easier opponent ahead of them. Niwot then takes on a tough Skyline High School team on Thursday night at Skyline. Skyline is 6-1 on the season so they should be a great matchup for Niwot.
