Niwot boys soccer dominates Severance

Niwot High School boys soccer split their games this week, crushing Severance in a 9-1 victory while falling just short of Skyline in a 2-1 loss. Niwot is now 5-3-1 on the year. The Cougars have a +11 goal differential this season, as they have dominated in their easier games and played close against top-ranked teams.

Niwot’s victory against Severance was a dominant one. Niwot knocked down four goals in the first half, with most coming back-to-back in the earlier minutes. Severance was able to get a goal of their own during the closing minutes of the first half. Niwot continued to dominate in the second half, scoring five goals while shutting out Severance.

A variety of Niwot players scored points in this game as the Cougars were led by Jett Feiner's hat trick. Xaden Del Rio got himself two goals while Noah Beltran, Bo Garner, Josh Ary and Usiel Franco Cruz each scored one goal. Naveen Bopearachchigedon and Jay Scharfe each picked up one assist while Josh Rodriguez, Gardner, and Ary each got two assists. Malachi Gilmore played the first half in the net, allowing one goal, while Lucas Willard played the second half shutting out Severance.

Niwot’s next game was against a much stronger team in Skyline. Niwot and Skyline were evenly matched in the first half, with both teams failing to score. In the second half Niwot fell behind and the Cougars were unable to close the gap, losing 2-1.

Niwot’s lone goal was scored by Paris Lee, assisted by Feiner. Gilmore played the whole game for Niwot in the net, allowing only two goals while amassing an impressive 10 saves.

The Cougars are now 5-3-1 as they approach the end of the season. Niwot has two more games this week, playing Thompson Valley Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at home, and then Mountain View on Thursday, Oct. 5, in Loveland at 6:30 p.m.
