Student Athlete of the Week Jett Feiner

Four-year varsity player Jett Feiner is wrapping up his Niwot High School boys soccer career on an impressive scoring surge.

Through Oct. 8, the senior owns a career-high six goals to go along with five assists. Half of Feiner's six scores came via his first high school hat trick in a 9-1 blowout of Severance on Sept. 26.

Besides being more aggressive in shooting the ball, Feiner shared that nothing major has changed regarding his role on the field.

"I try to do everything while I'm out there," he said. "I try to be a leader, I try to be a good player and it's easy when I've got awesome teammates."

Feiner is one of several Niwot upperclassmen who've stepped up for the Cougars, including fellow seniors Josh Rodriguez, Bo Gardner, Paris Lee and Moy Ramirez. The five have combined for 24 of Niwot's 37 goals on the year.

"All of us are so close," Feiner said. "All these guys I pretty much grew up playing with during the St. Vrain (Football Club) days and all of that. It's awesome to play with them again and get to have this experience, especially in our senior season."

Growing up, Feiner was inspired to play soccer by his older brother Jake Feiner, a 2018 Silver Creek High School graduate who played four collegiate seasons at the University of Dayton.

"He was a huge role model for me," Feiner said of his older brother. "I started playing soccer because of him when I was four years old because he was there. I looked up to him."

The younger Feiner also has hopes of playing soccer in college, but his current focus is on helping Niwot reach the upcoming state playoffs. With three regular season games remaining, the 7-3-2 Cougars are in a strong position to qualify.

Feiner is more than confident that Niwot has the pieces to finish strong.

"We're going to do everything we can to push forward, make playoffs and go as far as we can,

he said. "I know we have the capability of (doing) it. I know what we can do."

Feiner's Cougars host Frederick on Oct. 10 before traveling to Fort Morgan on Oct. 12. Niwot's regular season finale then comes next on Oct. 19 vs. Riverdale Ridge.

"It's a little bitter knowing that it's going to come to an end soon, but it's good," Feiner said.
