Niwot High School Clubs - Spotlight on Drama Club

Niwot High School is host to over 60 student-run clubs, and one that represents a multitude of talented and passionate Niwot students is the Drama Club.

Aiden Sagner, Drama Club President, defines Drama Club as a group that "meets with students who are looking to improve their acting skills and broaden their knowledge and understanding of the theater world."

Drama Club particularly appeals to students who may not have time to involve themselves in theater classes. For example those who are student athletes, and students who are taking IB (International Baccalaureate) classes have limited time outside of their studies and sports activities.

Drama Club members meet every few weeks after school to learn new skills, and practice old ones. To date this school year, they have held workshops for improv and stage combat. During the upcoming spring semester they plan to host workshops on skills such as dance and dialects.

These workshops are useful for any actor. For example, auditions will soon be held for Niwot High School's upcoming spring musical, "Shrek." These auditions will require a high level of skill in acting, dancing, and singing. The workshops give students the opportunity to improve and hone their skills before auditions are held.

Each member in this club has displayed obvious talents during both workshops, and previous shows held at Niwot. Sagner, Vice-president Rori Ann Barchers, and secretary Sophie Arnett-Simon were all in Niwot's most recent production, "Puffs."

Students involved and participating in Drama Club include Aiden Sagner, Rori Ann Barchers, Sophie Arnett-Simon, Mimi Archibold, Juliette Molina, Grace DeRose, Greta Stauch, Pali Sauer, Prugh Dunfee, Ash Kissinger, Maya Elowe, and Mark Percarpio. Ms. Amanda Foust has taken on the role of facilitating the club.

In the words of Sagner, "We wanted to give students who don't have the room in their schedule for a drama class a place where they can still be involved in the theater program and learn about new skills to build their theater abilities [including stage combat, stage makeup, etc]."
