The Niwot High School boys basketball team has reached the holiday break with a 3-5 record. The Cougars played their most recent game against the Longmont High School Trojans, falling short of victory with a 67-34 loss. Niwot has now lost five straight after starting hot with a 3-0 start. Niwot still has 12 games left to stop their skid, so there is still hope.
Niwot started the game slowly, scoring just five points in the first quarter. While Niwot struggled to get going, Longmont jumped up with 13 first-quarter points, with 17 more in the second to reach 30-11 at half after another slow quarter for Niwot. Niwot caught a bit of fire in the second half, scoring 23 points, but still lost 67-34 after Longmont's 37-point half, dropping Niwot to 3-5.
Niwot's struggle primarily came in the turnover column, losing the turnover battle 22-4. Niwot shot efficiently, making 57% of their shots, with an impressive 43% from three-point range, but put up far fewer shots than Longmont, leading to the loss.
Jackson Carano led Niwot with 13 points, shooting at 75% efficiency. Brighton Langenegger was second in points with eight, while Elliot Wisecup was behind him with four. Rohit Das, Archer Buckbee, and Sebastian Stenz each made a three-point shot to round out Niwot's scoring. Carano also led the team in rebounds, getting four of the team's 12, with Buckbee and Langenegger's two each following. Stenz led the way with seven assists, getting seven of Niwot's 12 with Buckbee adding two. Das led the way with two of three steals for Niwot while Carano led blocks with two of three also.
