New Year's Resolutions

With the new year, many of us resolve to change something in our lives. “New Year’s Resolutions” sounds a little daunting but really, small changes can make a difference. Whether it is to eliminate a behavior or add a behavior or perhaps treat yourself to a new experience, there are many good reasons to start the year with a “clean slate” and resolve to make 2024 a better year.

The Courier staff shares some of their resolutions below. Maybe they might inspire you to do the same.

Detox from sugar.

Enjoy my family before my daughter leaves for college in the fall.

Be more positive and easier on myself daily.

Have family brunch or dinner weekly.

Expand my food writing, and write articles that go a little deeper.

-Deborah Cameron

My resolution is to take care of a cat (I am going to adopt a cat).

As one gets older, the value of time increases and no matter how hard many of us have looked, more of it can't be purchased (even Amazon doesn't carry it).

As such, I'm making a New Year's resolution for the first time in my life and while it may be difficult to achieve, it's a simple one - stop procrastinating.

The reason for my New Year's resolution may not be as straightforward as it seems. Yes, there's more I want to accomplish and experiences I want to have before I get too old, but those aren't the drivers per se.

The driver is to stop adding to the list of regrets I, as many of us, live with everyday.

Regret is an unpleasant feeling at best and since there's nothing I can do about the past where those regrets originated, I’m going to focus on the present to stop the list from expanding.

Starting on January 1st, I'll be doing just that by trying my hardest to stop wasting precious time.

-Jonathan Epstein

Make an effort to have lunch at least once a week with an old (or new) friend. Everybody has to eat sometime.

-Biff Warren

Up my game.

-Elise Marylander

Every year, I vow to lose 20 pounds. I’m going to do it for sure this year.

-Gene Hayworth

To give up on sadness and learn what the lessons are from the events thrown at us in 2023.

-Vicki Maurer

Stop gaslighting my girlfriend into thinking that watching sports on TV counts as a date night.

-Jack Carlough
