The Niwot High School boys basketball squad started slowly as they fell to Thompson Valley High School 72-36 Jan. 9, coming out of the break. Niwot fared better against Frederick High School on Jan. 11 as they lost by 11 in a 60-49 heartbreak after leading early in the contest.
The Cougars were outscored by Thompson Valley 36-16 in the first half, keeping Niwot out of reach most of the game as Thompson Valley scored another 36 points in the second half to wrap up a dominating win.
Taylor Rodanski notched 11 points to lead the team in scoring. Rohit Das and Brighton Langenegger followed with five points each while Jackson Carano and Luke Demmel added four points each. Archer Buckbee got three points for himself while Emmett Verhoogen, Zhuming Haratsaris, and Brooklyn Donohoe had two each to round out the scoring.
Sebastian Stenz and Das led the team with three assists apiece, while Rodanski and Haratsaris had one each. Langenegger dominated the boards, getting five rebounds while Demmel, Rodanski, and Haratsaris all got three each.
Niwot came into their next matchup with much more energy as they battled throughout the game. The Cougars played Frederick close for most of the matchup before falling by 11 to lose 60-49.Turnovers hurt the Cougars as they committed 16 to Frederick's 11.
Niwot had multiple double-digit scorers against Frederick with Langenegger's 12 leading the team, while Stenz, Das, and Carano had 10 points each. Buckbee also had four while Rodanski had three.
Multiple players led the team in assists as Rodanski, Buckebee, Stenz, Das, Langenegger, and Carano each had two assists while Demmel had one. Rodanski led the team with seven rebounds, while Langenegger followed with six. Stenz and Carano each had three, while Demmel and Das had two.
Niwot takes on Fort Morgan High School next Thursday, Jan. 18, on the road, and Northridge High School on Saturday, Jan. 20, at home.
