Niwot High School Clubs - Spotlight on the A Capella Club

Niwot High School is host to over 60 student-run clubs, and one stand-out is the A Capella Club.

In the words of Greta Stauch, who is currently an 11th-grader at Niwot High School as well as the founder of the A Capella Club, "The Niwot High School A Capella Club is made up of a select group of auditioned performers from all four grades who put together vocal performances without the help of accompaniment other than from their peers in the group.

The club is completely run by students-everything from music selection to the organization of performances to the actual teaching of music happens without the help of adults. The group performs at the school choir concerts and other independently organized events.

The A Capella club was created for Stauch's CAS Project for the IB Diploma Programme.

The A Capella Club rehearses outside of school hours in order to prepare for upcoming performances, which include choir concerts alongside Niwot's Treble, Tenor/Bass, Sedalia, Chamber, and Evenstar choirs. The club's first appearance at a Niwot High School event this year was during the NHS Winter Concert, and it will not be their last. They will be performing at both the March concert and the May concert, with possible events in between.

The A Capella Club is auditioned, but as Stauch points out, it is also open to all grade levels. The Club currently consists of 15 singers. They are Merrick Blondeau, Jasper Allison, Miles Shaw, Mark Percarpio, Fred Zorgdrager, River Osgood, Camryn Bell, Sophie Arnett-Simon, Greta Stauch, Charlotte Stauch, Juliette Molina, Kennah Brackett, Ali Kraut, James Miller, and Hazel Rinehart. Stauch, Zorgdrager, Allison, and Brackett work together to hold and review auditions as well as select new members.

At the Winter Concert held this past December, the Club performed arrangements of "Underneath the Tree" by Kelly Clarkson as well as "White Winter Hymnal" by Fleet Foxes, as arranged by Pentatonix. They are currently starting to rehearse for the upcoming March concert, and plan to sing enjoyable and challenging arrangements that will wow any crowd of all ages, backgrounds, or music preferences.
