All Local, All The Time
Last weekend, Niwot and the entire Front Range was blanketed by more than 4 inches of heavy, wet snow. The large flakes quickly accumulated, making driving a slush-filled challenge for anyone who ventured outside, especially later in the afternoon. Anyone staying inside was able to see a frosted, snow-globe effect to anything beyond the panes of their window.
We went to Old Town and Cottonwood Square to talk to community members about their snowy experience. The snow didn't deter visitors. Restaurants and shops were busy. We asked people what they thought just as the snow was beginning to fall and their responses ranged from the expected to the poetic.
"We need it. It's good. My dogs love it."
"It's a little surprising. We live a half mile away and the rain started in my place around midnight. I don't have to go very far. It's all good."
- Jeff and Bob, two friends from the Boulder area
"It's Colorado, it snows. But I feel like it's wetter. Usually we have a dry, powdery snow."
- Ben from Old Town Frederick
"I thought it made it look like a snow globe."
-Rachel from Old Town Frederick
"I had no idea it was supposed to snow this much. Should I be worried about driving? I tend to not stress. I grew up in Michigan where it was snowy and icy. And I don't have a lot of places to go. I'll be alright. That should help."
-Christine from Longmont
"This kind of snow makes me want to stick out my tongue, catch some flakes. And usually, it makes me not want to leave my couch."
-Logan from Lafayette
"It was a little bit of a surprise but it's absolutely delightful. I was ready for some snow. And I have a toddler who was more than ready for it."
-Clio from Longmont
"It's absolutely gorgeous. We've been having coffee and watching it come down. It's our regular spot to grab coffee and enjoy some quiet. This time we're enjoying snow too."
– Nicolas from Niwot
"I love that the weather guessers are wrong and that it's not rain this weekend, it's snow. I love snow."
-Quentin from Boulder
"I love it, it's really pretty. But driving in it was scary. It's a lot busier here (at Niwot Tavern) than it normally is, but it's busier than I thought it would be."
-Sierra from Boulder County
"I'm originally from the East Coast, so the wet, heavy slushy snow brings me back home. Stinks to drive in, but it's nice."
-Kelli from Southwest Longmont
