The Niwot High School Boys Basketball team turned around an eight-game losing streak this week, splitting the week 1-1 to jump up to 5-15 as the end of the season approaches. Niwot opened the week up with a 62-45 loss to the Frederick High School Golden Eagles before beating the Mountain View High School Mountain Lions 62-56 on Thursday.
Niwot played close against Fredrick but fell just short by the final buzzer, falling 62-45. Niwot lost both games in their series against Fredrick, dropping to 4-15 on the year.
Niwot came out strong against Fredrick, with Rohit Das leading Niwot in scoring with 10 points on four of nine shooting. Brighton Langnegger had seven points while Archer Buckbee and Jackson Carano had six points each. Elliot Wisecup and Jake Gardnereach added four points while Shiva Garuda and Sebastian Stenz had three each. LT Lehman rounded out the scoring with two points.
Stenz led the way for Niwot's playmaking, having four assists on the night. Freshman Lehman had two assists while Carano and Wisecup had one apiece. Langnegger and Carano led the team with nine rebounds each, while Das trailed with five. Taylor Rodanski had four rebounds, Wisecup had three, Stenz and Gardner had two, and Lehman had one.
Niwot came out strong against Mountain View, getting an early lead, and not letting go until the final buzzer, winning 62-56. Niwot split the series against the Mountain Lions 1-1 after a close loss early in the year. Niwot jumped up to 5-15 on the year.
Niwot lost a matchup against Skyline 56-40 on Feb. 12, falling behind 12-8 in the first quarter, and 25-17 at the half. Skyline added to its lead in the second half as the Cougars had trouble scoring. Game stats for the last two games were not available at press time.
Niwot has two more chances to close the season on a high note. The Cougars play against Fort Morgan High School on Feb. 13 for their last home game, at 7:00 p.m. The Cougars then take on Northridge High School on Friday, Feb. 16 to end the year. The game will be at Northridge High School at 5:30 pm.
