The Niwot High School boys basketball season has officially come to a close as Niwot played its final games of the year last week. The Cougars ended their year on a hot streak, winning two of their final three games.
Niwot started the week with a tough loss 56-40 to Skyline High School, before putting together victories over Fort Morgan High School, 62-49, and Northridge High School, 71-64. Niwot ended the year with a 7-16 record.
Niwot's lone loss in the final week came on Monday against Skyline. Niwot started a little slow against Skyline, getting outscored 24-17 in the first half. Niwot scored another 23 points in the second half but was outscored by 32, losing 56-40.
Jackson Carano had a huge game against Skyline, dropping 15 points while picking up four rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block. Brighton Langenegger also had a double-digit night with 11 points, 13 rebounds, an assist, and a block. Sebastian Stenz followed with six points, four rebounds, and an assist. Taylor Rodanski and Jake Gardner rounded out the scoring with three points apiece. Rodanski also had two rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Niwot's next game came against Fort Morgan. Niwot ran away with the game early off of an impressive performance from Carano, playing his final home game. Carano scored a team-high 23 points, along with 11 boards and three blocks to lead Niwot to victory. Rohit Das followed up with 12 points, four rebounds, and a steal. Langenegger rounded out the top performers with seven points, nine rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Stenz highlighted the assist category with five, also notching three points and two rebounds for the team.
Niwot's season finale came against Northridge High School in a shootout. Niwot stayed close with Northridge throughout the game but jumped ahead at the end to secure their seventh win of the year, 71-64. Player stats from the final game were not available at press time.
