Boulder County Transportation Update

Welcome to the Niwot Transportation Update, your go-to source for all things related to transportation and mobility in our vibrant community. This monthly column will provide information regarding road and bicycle construction zone updates, maintenance projects such as the annual Boulder County chip seal program, major construction activities including the N. 95th St. (Valmont Road to Lookout Road) Reconstruction Project projected for 2024, RTD and CDOT Colorado 119 Safety, Mobility and Bikeway Project, and the Front Range Passenger Rail connecting major population centers along the Colorado Front Range.

The 2024 North 95th St. (Valmont Road to Lookout Road) Reconstruction Project will include improvements to protect the road and surrounding open space from damage during flood events. Other improvements will include reducing the road grade north of Boulder Valley Farm and increasing shoulder widths.

Currently, the CO 119 Safety, Mobility and Bikeway Project is scheduled to start in 2024. Three proposed connections to the Colorado 119 Bikeway include a Niwot Second Avenue underpass, a CO 52 Mineral Road connection and a LOBO connection at Ogallala Road.

There are three design options for the Niwot Second Avenue underpass connection. The other two connections are moving forward with their current alignments, but minor refinements can still be made and suggestions from the community are welcome.

All three connections aim to provide safe, accessible, and efficient connection options for bike way and transit users. Funding has not been obtained for the three connections, however, the projects are moving forward with design, and when funding is available, these connections can be constructed simultaneously.

Look for progress updates for both projects.
