Niwot boys volleyball going strong, jumps to 4-1

The Niwot High School boys volleyball team has continued its hot streak, jumping to a 4-1 record after winning both games last week. The Cougars started the week off with a matchup against Greeley Central High School, winning 3-0, then followed up with a match against Overland High School, taking the series 3-1.

Niwot played all three series against Greeley Central to the wire, winning 26-24, 25-20, and 25-23, to complete the sweep.

Sophomore Diego Kheng led the way in kills, notching seven over the three series. Gabe Victor followed with six, trailed by Jenu Ngilah and Shen Lam’s five each, Cooper Chudleigh and Murray Avalia’s four each, and Sage Xiong’s two. Victor and Xiong both dominated the serves, getting two aces each, while Chudleigh, Lam, Ngilah, and Avalia each had one.

Charlie Kirtland led the way with ten digs, followed by Victor’s nine, Xiong’s eight, Kheng’s three, with Rowan Keller, Lam, Chudleigh, and Ngilah’s adding two each. No blocks were recorded.

Niwot finished the week with a match against Overland. Niwot won 3-1, winning the first two games, 25-16 and 27-25, before falling 25-20 in the third set. Niwot recouped, winning the match after a 25-21 victory.

Ngilah led the attack, notching 11 kills over the four sets. Lam and Kheng followed with nine kills each, trailed by Chudleigh and Victor’s five each, Avalia’s three, and Xiong’s one. Xiong and Lam led the way with serves, both grabbing two aces each, followed by Chudliegh, Kheng, and Ngilah’s one.

Lam and Keller led the way in blocks, with both grabbing one. Victor led the way in digs, notching 15, followed by Lam and Ngilah’s 12 each, Xiong’s eight, Kirtland’s seven, Avalia’s five, Kheng’s three, Keller’s two, and Chudliegh’s one.

Niwot has a three-game stretch the week of April 1, with back-to-back games on Monday and Tuesday, before finishing the week off with a match on Thursday. Niwot will take on Vista Peak Prep on Monday, Mountain View High School on Tuesday, and Boulder High School on Thursday. Niwot’s only home game will be against Mountain View High School.
