The Niwot High School boys volleyball team has continued its great start to the season as the Cougars jumped to a 10-2 record after three league games turned into three wins, and a strong Douglas County Tournament performance left them with a 3-1 record. The Cougars are now the eighth-ranked team in the state as they continue to dominate.
Niwot opened the week with three league games, playing matches against Vista PEAK Preparatory, Mountain View High School, and Boulder High School. Niwot then took part in the Douglas County Tournament on Saturday, April 6, taking on Thunder Ridge High School, Chaparral High School, and Legend High School before losing to Mountain Vista High School to end the weekend tournament.
Niwot dropped the first set 25-23 in their win against Vista Peak, before going on a run, winning the next three sets, 25-23, 25-20, and 25-22 to take the match 3-1. The game jumped Niwot to a 5-1 record as they headed into their Mountain View Matchup.
Niwot dominated against Mountain View, winning the match 3-0, with scores of 25-11, 25-7, and 25-13. The Cougars wrapped up their league play for the week with a 3-1 win against Boulder High School. Niwot took the first two sets 25-18 and 27-25, before falling 25-23 in the third set. Niwot bounced back, taking the final set 25-21.
Niwot continued their success at the Douglas County Tournament by taking an early 2-0 win against Thunder Ridge High School. Niwot won both sets by a comfortable margin, winning 25-18 and 25-20. The Cougars then went on to Chaparral High School 2-0, winning the match 25-15 and 25-20. Niwot grabbed their last win against Legend High School, playing a close match before coming away with a victory, winning 25-23 and 25-21. Niwot ended the tournament with a loss at the hands of Mountain Vista High School. Niwot lost the the first set 25-14, before going into a heated overtime battle where the Cougars lost 27-26.
Niwot has three games this week, including one home game on Tuesday, April 9, against Severance High School at 6:30 p.m., then at Poudre Valley High School on Thursday, April 11, at 6:30 p.m. and on Monday, April 15 at 6:00 p.m. at Riverdale Ridge.
