All Local, All The Time
The annual Lobsterfest event is returning to Niwot Saturday, June 8, for the fourth year since its return after a long hiatus. Lobsterfest began at the direction of former Niwot business owner Diane Atwood several years ago. Its reincarnation draws people from near and far as a charitable, fun, community event at Whistle Stop Park.
"Every year, the funds are raised at this event for different charities," said organizer Deb Fowler of the Niwot Business Association (NBA). Previous funds have been raised for those affected by the Marshall Fire, improvements at the Niwot Children's Park, donations towards Niwot Youth Sports, and the Sculpture Park along Niwot Road. "This year, there will be a silent auction that will raise money toward the Left Hand Grange No. 9 for their renovations and events," she said.
Lobsterfest begins at 4 p.m June 8 and the festivities will continue until 8 p.m. Tickets are $95 per adult and $35 for children. A ticket grants access to the venue, a "Cape Codder" cocktail, lobster and side dishes, designer cookies, and ice cream. Children's meals consist of lobster mac and cheese, sides, designer cookies, ice cream, a juice box, and a fun-filled goodie bag.
Live music by the Longs Peak Brass Quintet, consisting of trumpet players Paul Kellog and Chris Berst, Mark Himan on French horn, trombonist Curtis Fox, and Rod Christian playing the tuba, will get the party started. Their repertoire features classical music, folk, ragtime, marches, polka, and movie themes.
"I love this event," said Fowler, "because we get to bring the community together to enjoy lobster from Maine here in Colorado." Colorado, being a landlocked state, typically finds it difficult to acquire decent quality seafood in larger quantities, yet Lobsterfest pulls it off every year. Others who work with Fowler to put on the event include Mary Coonce and Linda Klueber.
This year's Lobsterfest is sponsored by several businesses, including The Wheel House, Porchfront Homes, DRF Realtors, Slifer Smith & Frampton, and Inspections Over Coffee. But it's not too late to become a sponsor as the NBA is still looking for additional sponsors for the event. The Niwot Local Improvement District (LID) also provides funding for the event, which is limited to 200 persons.
Anyone interested in sponsoring the event can contact Fowler via email at [email protected]. Sponsors receive two complimentary tickets to the event, and their logo will appear on all advertisements, social media posts specific to their organization, and a thank you ad.
Be sure to grab your ticket while supplies last so you don't miss out on the fun, music, prizes, and delicious food.
