Niwot High School boys volleyball season ends during play-in tournament

The Niwot High School boys volleyball season has come to an end as Niwot split games during their round-robin play-in tournament. Niwot was placed in the eighth group with 17th-ranked Legend High School and 8th-ranked Cherokee Trail High School. The Cougars came in as the 9th-ranked team out of 24.

The Cougars played their first matchup against Legend, making quick work to take the match 3-1, giving the Cougars a fighting chance for one of the eight playoff seats up for grabs in the state tournament. Disaster struck for Niwot when they took on Cherokee Trail, however, as a slow start kept Niwot from taking over the game, resulting in a 3-0 loss. Cherokee Trail then went on to beat Legend, knocking the Cougars out of title contention.

Niwot’s match against Legend was close at first, as Niwot split the first two sets in overtime, winning the first 26-24 before losing the second 27-25. Niwot started to catch fire in the second half, taking the third set 25-20, and the final set 25-12, to take the match.

The Cougars’ match against Cherokee Trail did not go as smoothly as Niwot lost the first two sets 25-17. Niwot had a good bounce back during the third set, but it was too little too late as they lost 30-28 in overtime, as Cherokee Trial prevailed, 3-0.
