BBQ Sloppy Joes
Submitted by Suzanne Garner
"My mom used to make these sloppy joes all the time but we only knew them as "BBQ." This was probably because of their delicious sweet/sour BBQ flavor. What a surprise when I ordered BBQ at a restaurant and got ribs."
Ingredients:
1-1/4 pounds ground beast (beef, chicken, turkey or lean pork)
1 Tbsp. butter or olive oil or canola oil
1 diced white onion
2 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. salt
6 Tbsp. brown sugar
6 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
2/3 cup ketchup (give or take)
1 tsp. (or so) yellow or brown mustard
6 hamburger buns
Directions:
Saute onions in butter or oil.
When translucent, move to the side of the pan and add meat on the empty part of the pan. Brown the meat while the onions continue cooking.
Add salt and pepper while cooking.
Add the brown sugar and vinegar. Stir.
Add ketchup and mustard.
Simmer until ready to eat.
Serve on hamburger buns.
This is perfect to make ahead when hungry travelers arrive at different times of the day. Easily doubled or tripled.
