All Local, All The Time
Heatherwood Elementary School hosted its annual mile-long Heather Heatherwood "fun run," Tuesday, May 21 to round out a spirited school year.
Students and staff wound through the course on the closed streets of the Heatherwood neighborhood and tackled obstacle courses created for the event.
This year the theme was "CandyLand," so obstacles consisted of candy balloon arches, donut tires, and pool noodle lollipops. The PTO set up obstacles throughout the course, complete with photo booths and stomp rockets. Many neighbors came out of their houses to cheer the students on with music and hoses.
Every year, the Boulder Rural Fire Department supports the fun run by blocking off one of the streets and spraying students with water from their fire hoses and this year was no exception.
The newest tradition was the "Once a Husky, Always a Husky" Hall of Fame, which included posted pictures of each graduating fifth grader along the race course. Sparky, the Husky mascot, joined the festivities by leading the pre-race stretch and joining the fifth-graders in the first heat. It was an outstanding way for Heatherwood students and staff to run into the summer months.
