Niwot Youth Sports to host ribbon-cutting ceremony

After a weather delay on April 28, Niwot Youth Sports President Pat Longseth is eager to cut the ribbon on the new Niwot Youth Sports Monarch Improvement Project building. The end-of-season celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony is now scheduled for Sunday, June 23, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Hangge Fields at Monarch Park.

The six-field complex, with access off of Highway 52 just west of 79th Street, is now home to a building that includes permanent restrooms, a concession area, and equipment storage space. The facility was built as part of the Monarch Improvement Project, which has raised most of its $500,000 goal for the building and other facility improvements.

"We are just above $486,000 and hoping to raise the last $14,000 at our ribbon-cutting event," Longseth said. "We will be accepting donations at the event and this is the final opportunity to get on the plaque." Those who donate $100 or more will be added to a plaque the group plans to unveil on the building next year.

Donations to the non-profit organization can be made on the Niwot Youth Sports website or in person on June 23 with cash or a check. Checks can also be mailed to Niwot Youth Sports, P.O. Box 125, Niwot, CO 80544. Please indicate MVP on the check.

After spending two full years fundraising and getting the construction going, Longseth is looking forward to thanking the community and donors who made it possible. "We're so grateful for everything everybody has done to help," Longseth remarked. "It came out better than we could have planned."

The end-of-season celebration June 23 will include a kickball or whiffle ball tournament for young athletes and their parents in place of baseball and softball games since the recreational youth sports seasons will be wrapped up by then. The concession stand will be open and there will be a bouncy house for little ones.

Girls On Top!, a local Motown band, is set to perform, as well. The band has been a staple at Rock & Rails for many summers and Longseth is excited to invite them to the NYS event.

Niwot Youth Sports, which was incorporated in 1972, is a non-profit charitable organization that provides baseball, softball, basketball, flag football, and soccer programs for area youth. Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
