All Local, All The Time
After a few weather delays, the Niwot Community Association (NCA) finalized the restoration of the mural in the underpass beneath Niwot Road. The first round of restoration took place in the spring of 2023, and the restoration was finished on Sunday, May 19, 2024.
Due to the weather taking its toll on the paint, which caused bubbling, water stains, cracking, and peeling in several places, the NCA sought volunteers to help with the process of restoring the mural, which was initially painted in 2011 by Giselle "Bre" Thiele.
Funds from the NCA helped with purchase of the paint for the project. NCA Director of Trails and Open Space Vicky Dorvee, who organized this year's restoration efforts, worked with Denise Chamberlain, whom she described as a "mural artist extraordinaire," to restore the painted walls.
Others who assisted in the process in 2023 and 2024 include David Limbach, Ellen Haswell, Kathy Koehler, Aleta and Alden Sherman, Jim Dorvee, Barbara Fayeulle, Laura Bloom, Ali Knight, Audrey Lenger, Liz Schmidt, Linda and Andy Lattanzi, Barb Greweling, Marie McCreery, Erna Waterman, Karen Baker-Jarvis, Karen Gzym, Atsuko Takenouchi, Mona Lilien, Jane Langdon, and Julie Breyer. Additional assistance was provided by Max Myers, a local painter from Niwot, who helped apply a sealer coat to help the mural last for at least another ten years.
