All Local, All The Time
The Niwot High School girls golf team had a remarkable season, finishing third in the Longs Peak League under the guidance of Coach Ed Weaver.
Wendy Cheruiyot had an outstanding season, finishing second individually in the league and earning accolades on the All-State Second Team for Class 4A, as well as the Long's Peak All-Conference Team. As a freshman, Cheruiyot's performance was exceptional, demonstrating skill and composure on the course. In the state tournament, Cheruiyot was the Cougar's top finisher, individually finishing 13th, with an overall score of 173, shooting 86 in round one, and 87 in round two.
The team saw further success with senior Mina O'Dell and junior Alena Kasanicky qualifying for the state tournament. Kasanicky shot 89 in the first round and 91 in the second, bringing her total to 180 to finish in a tie for 23rd. To conclude her high school career, O'Dell finished 64th overall with an overall score of 202. The Cougars finished seventh as a team.
Sophomore Emmy Hostelley was named the team's Most Improved Golfer of the season.
The Cougars will return next season with Cheruiyot, Kasanicky, and Hostelley as well as rising sophomores Addy Murphy and Scout Worland.
