All Local, All The Time
The Niwot High School girls soccer team had an impressive 2024 season. Under the guidance of Coach Stephen Dimit, the team finished the year 8-4-4 and secured a spot in the state tournament. The team's hard work was evident throughout the season, resulting in several players receiving postseason accolades.
Seniors Paige Russell and Margaux Boyer led the charge, both serving as team captains who played pivotal roles in the midfield and defense, respectively. Russell scored three goals and had three assists. Boyer not only anchored the defense, but also contributed significantly to the offense with four goals, tying for second on the team, and led the team with seven assists.
Their skillful season performances earned them All-Conference honors in the 4A/3A Longs Peak League. Additionally, Russell and Boyer were recognized with Honorable Mention All-State honors. Their skill on the field was instrumental in the Cougars' successful season.
Freshman defender Elizabeth Robbins also made a significant impact, earning All-Conference alongside Russell and Boyer, solidifying her position as a key player for the Cougars for years to come.
Sophomore Mariah Fletemeyer received an All-Conference Honorable Mention. The Cougars' starting goalkeeper recorded 93 saves, conceding only 19 throughout the season, which ended prematurely due to injury. While she was healthy, her ability to make saves was crucial for the team's defense.
Offensively, sophomore forward Heather Humphrey led the team with five goals. Her power to find the back of the net made Humphrey a pivotal player in the attacking third. Fellow sophomore Brynn Schlarb, a midfielder, had four goals of her own and matched Boyer's assist tally with seven.
The Cougars are graduating seniors Menbere Sullivan, Evelyn Hess, Tracy Yu, as well as Russell and Boyer.
They finished their season in fifth place in the ten-team 4A/3A Longs Peak League and lost in the first round of the state tournament to Lutheran High School. As a team, they scored 39 goals in 15 games. While they lose five players to graduation, the team is looking toward a promising future ahead.
