All Local, All The Time

NYS Monarch Field ribbon cutting and celebration

Hangge Fields at Monarch Park were abuzz with activity this past Sunday, June 23, as the volunteer board members of Niwot Youth Sports hosted a celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony for their brand new building housing concessions, storage and permanent bathrooms on site.

NYS President Pat Longseth and NYS Hangge Fields at Monarch Supervisor and Maintenance Director Glenn Wager, who also serves as NYS Girls Softball Commissioner, were on hand to officially open the building. Riki Frea, NYS Marketing and Fundraising Director, organized the event and has worked tirelessly over the past two years to raise $500,000 to fund the project. The Monarch Improvement Project is now within $5,000 of the original goal and is on the home stretch of the fundraising campaign.

The celebration included a variety of activities, including a very exciting kickball tournament in which four teams competed on Monarch Fields for the title of inaugural NYS Kickball Tournament champion. The Cooper and Nielsen families on the Blue Team were victorious against the Longnecker family, Teilborg family and free agent squad on the Red Team in the tournament final. Local band Girls On Top entertained families after the official ribbon cutting ceremony and put on a great show.

Those who donated will be featured on one of the external walls of the building with plaques showcasing all of the community donations NYS has received. The donor plaques will be going up in the coming weeks. The NYS board voted on and approved a name for the building, which will honor and thank both Pat Longseth and Glenn Wager and their families for their time and efforts that went into making the building a reality. The proposed name of the building will be the Wager-Longseth Building at Monarch Fields.

Local businesses such as Porchfront Homes, Golden Forensics, Osmosis Architecture, EZ Excavating, Ward Electric Company, Sweet Roofing, Total Concrete Services, Colorado Materials, Nixcavating, and JAD Shortstop also contributed much appreciated materials and labor to complete the project.
