All Local, All The Time

House Blend Band is back July 20

The Old Oak Coffeehouse is hosting another House Blend Band concert on Saturday, July 20, organized by Micheal Tomich and Patty Machen, Old Oak owners and band members.

Tomich promises the band will perform at least four songs by the band Chicago, three songs by Elton John, four or five Motown songs, and a few other selections from the 1970s.

This month's concert will feature Tomich's granddaughter Evelyn singing with the band. At 10 years old, Evelyn has been singing with the House Blend Band for three years. Tomich explained that his granddaughter's singing career was inspired by his family's musical history. "My daughter (Paris) and I started singing together when she was like three or four years old," he said. "We've just been singing together forever. And my daughter and her daughter sing together all the time. So [singing] is kind of in the family."

"This concert, the reason my granddaughter is singing, is because there is a lot of family coming from out of state, sort of for a family reunion, so it will be a fun time for Paris, myself, and Patty because there will be a lot of family here for us," Tomich said.

In addition, a few select students from The Niwot Gig, a local music school located in Cottonwood Square at 7960 Niwot Road will be participating in the concert. The school is owned by Martin Marks and focuses on lessons on guitar, bass, and drum as well as singing and songwriting. The Niwot Gig also helps students form bands and hosts band rehearsals. The students will be performing during the House Blend Band's intermission.

The concert will be held in front of The Old Oak Coffeehouse, so that block of Second Avenue will be closed between Franklin Street and Murray Street. Concertgoers should bring their own seating. Old Oak will be offering its famous spaghetti and meatballs, and salads will be provided by Slow Food Boulder County and Kilt Farm.
