All Local, All The Time
Niwot High School graduate and IB Valedictorian Reema Baishya was a highly accomplished high school student.
This fall, Baishya will be attending CU Boulder on a Boettcher Scholarship to study Honors Electrical and Computer Engineering. Boettcher Scholarships are awarded to only fifty Colorado students annually. Baishya's academic efforts proved to be worth the strenuous coursework.
Not only is she passionate about reaching her academic goals, but she is also passionate about her chosen goals. "I know it's cliche, but I truly love engineering and computer science so much. From the problem-solving to the critical thinking that goes into creating algorithms, I find the design process, hands-on projects, and programming so enjoyable," Baishya said.
One of Baishya's favorite accomplishments during high school was Career Quest, an Innovation Center camp created by Baishya which was inspired by her late father. The encouragement from her father to pursue her love for engineering led her to create the summer camp with the hope to inspire local middle school students like herself.
The goal of the camp is to help students from sixth to eighth grade explore their interests and learn about the possibilities for their futures. The camp is now in its second year and has become one of the most popular camps held at the Innovation Center.
Baishya also has a love for representations of the human experience through various forms of media, including movies, music, and books. She enjoys exploring new perspectives of common experiences.
In the future, Baishya hopes to work in the hardware industry. "My dream job would be to create new models of computers, phones, or any other machinery," she explained. Another potential career path that she has considered after receiving her undergraduate degree is pursuing a PhD and teaching at an undergraduate level.
