Swing dancing shines at Dancing Under the Stars

Dancing Under the Stars brought the community together once again on Friday, Aug. 2, for an evening filled with music, laughter, and swing dancing. Held at Cottonwood Square in Niwot, the night focused on swing dancing, with Lorne Fultonberg and Boulder Swing Dance leading the way.

The evening kicked off with a lesson in Lindy Hop, one of the most popular styles of swing dancing. Instructors from Boulder Swing Dance took to the floor, guiding both seasoned dancers and first-timers through many different dance moves. To help everyone stay on beat, they encouraged those standing off of the dance floor to clap their hands to the music.

During the lesson, participants were encouraged to switch partners often, ensuring everyone had a chance to practice their newly learned skills. During the social dancing, attendees typically switch dance partners after each song, making it easy for newcomers to fit right in.

Avoiding last week's heavy rain, the Friday event featured only a mild rainstorm that provided a refreshing cool-off for the dancers. Dancers continued to glide across the dance floor, undeterred by the occasional sprinkle.

The event saw a significant number of newcomers who quickly adapted to the swing dance steps, thanks to expert guidance from Boulder Swing Dance instructors.

Next week, Aug. 9, the focus will shift back to salsa dancing with Nathan Hook from Boulder Rueda leading the dance lesson. Hook will teach a Cuban-style salsa dance from 7 to 7:45 p.m., with social dancing continuing until 9:30 p.m.

The event is funded by the Niwot LID, and sponsored by the Niwot Business Association, and Cottonwood Square, as well as local business sponsors Porchfront Homes, DRF Real Estate, Big Orange Square, Raza Fresa, Una Vida, and the Niwot Tavern.
