All Local, All The Time

Second annual Niwot Flower Fest

On Saturday, August 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Niwot will come alive with the vibrant colors of the Flower Fest. The second year of this annual celebration will be held on 2nd Avenue and in Cottonwood Square and promises a delightful experience for all ages.

Kathy Trauner, owner of Fly Away Home and one of the event organizers, describes the Fest as a celebration of everything we love about summer. "Flowers are everywhere, all grown by local farmers," said Trauner.

One of the event's highlights is the "Flower Journey." This year the first 150 attendees will receive a punch card, or "passport," and embark on a "Flower Journey" through Niwot, visiting participating businesses and collecting a free flower stem or a similar gift at each stop, such as a seed packet.

"Last year we served 75 visitors on the Flower Journey but had to turn away about 50 people," Trauner said. This year, the Niwot Business Association, with support from the Niwot Local Improvement District, opted to double the number of punch cards available. "With 150 passports we're hoping we can serve just about everyone who would like one," Trauner explained.

The passport for the Flower Journey is free but local growers will sell flowers at their booths, encouraging everyone to support the farmers who make the Flower Fest possible.

Sarah Kleffner, owner of The Little Shop and another event organizer, is thrilled about this year's expansion. "Niwot retailers and small businesses anticipate a large turnout based on last year's amazing event and this one being even larger," she said. "I myself am doubling my staff for the day at The Little Shop in anticipation of the lines of folks we saw last year."

"We're expecting around 40 vendors coming into Niwot for this event," Kleffner noted. "Our vendors on both sides of town include potters, jewelry makers, terrarium enthusiasts, locally made food and drinks, flower farmers, vintage antique booths, a chocolatier, and much more."

The festival will feature a variety of musical performances to keep the atmosphere lively. Attendees will be able to enjoy tunes from Beloved Invaders and Music by Melody in Cottonwood Square, and Chicken Coop Willaye on Second Avenue.

Organizers Angie Miltersen, owner of Few of a Kind Vintage, Kleffner, and Trauner have been working tirelessly to make this event a success. Sarah Cioni, owner of Belle Terre Floral, has also played a significant role in connecting the team with local flower farmers and sharing her flower expertise, despite her busy wedding season schedule.

Trauner is excited about the additions and changes to this year's Fest. "We'll have more makers this year, and we're adding a vintage market on Second Avenue. There will be plein air painting, a prize drawing, and the Sweet Cow truck," she noted. The Sweet Cow truck will be a special treat, splitting its time between Cottonwood Square and Second Avenue, offering delicious ice cream to all attendees.

This year there will be many Niwot businesses participating in the event, including DRF Real Estate, The Wheel House, Blessings Day Spa, Belle Terre Floral, Inkberry Books, The Little Shop, Few of a Kind Vintage, Fly Away Home, Osmosis, Niwot Market, Niwot Jewelry, The Nook, Pebble Art Jewelry, and Wise Buys Antiques.

Don't miss out on this wonderful community event celebrating the beauty of summer blooms and the charm of Niwot. Mark your calendars for Saturday, Aug. 10, and come enjoy a flower-filled day with family and friends.
