All Local, All The Time

Cuban-style salsa ignites the dance floor at Dancing Under the Stars

Friday, Aug. 9, Dancing Under the Stars brought a spicy new flavor to the dance floor with Nathan Hook leading a Cuban-style salsa. Making his first appearance as an instructor this season, Hook introduced a fresh salsa style to the event, adding variety and excitement for both regulars and newcomers.

Hook took his time with the basic steps, watching all participants closely and offering advice when he felt it was necessary. As in previous weeks, switching partners was encouraged often, ensuring that everyone had a chance to practice their new skills.

The evening's atmosphere was noticeably different from the previous weeks. With a crisp, fall-like chill in the air, it was a welcome break from the summer heat and rain that dancers had grown familiar with. The cooler temperatures seemed to refresh the crowd, making for a vibrant night. Dancers of all skill levels spent the night twirling and twisting to their heart's desire.

Hook's music selection was nothing short of beautiful, perfectly complementing the rhythm and spirit of Cuban salsa. The tracks flowed seamlessly, enhancing the experience for everyone on the dance floor.

As the night progressed, the weather remained cooperative, holding off any rain until the very end of the night. The late rain added a touch of magic, as the only illumination came from the soft glow of string lights and street lamps, casting a glow on the dancers.

Despite the late rain, the dance floor remained full, with attendees undeterred by the weather.

On Friday, Aug. 16, Dancing Under the Stars will feature its fourth swing dancing night of the season from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in front of The Little Shop and WiNot Coffee Company. Boulder Swing Dance will be back as the instructor and DJ for the evening. The following week, Aug. 23, will feature the only contra dance night of the year.

The event is funded by the Niwot LID, and sponsored by the Niwot Business Association, and Cottonwood Square, as well as local business sponsors Porchfront Homes, DRF Real Estate, Big Orange Square, Raza Fresa, Una Vida, and the Niwot Tavern.
