All Local, All The Time

Familiar Face Mary Coonce

There are so many who volunteer behind the bar at Rock & Rails every week during the summer, but one particular volunteer stands out. This week's Familiar Face is Mary Coonce, well-known through her work at Porchfront Homes in Niwot.

In fact, Porchfront Homes built the Whistle Stop Park building where Coonce serves adult beverages, known as The Depot, in 2020. Prior to that, alcohol was served from a tent known as the "beer tent," which required set-up and take-down every Thursday night during the summer.

Coonce and her husband, Tim, moved to Niwot in 2012, and in 2013, purchased the building at 102 Second Avenue to make that site the new office for Porchfront Homes. Together they co-own their business which serves as a home building and remodeling company.

Coonce said she was drawn to Niwot for the small town atmosphere. "We wanted to live on a property with space where we could keep our horses but still be close to town," she said.

Coonce began volunteering with Rock & Rails six years ago because she said it looked like fun to work with a great team and enjoy the comradery, and it seemed like a great way to contribute to the community. She enjoys being involved with community groups as she is also the Niwot Business Association (NBA) Treasurer and serves on the Local Improvement District (LID) advisory committee.

In her free time, she loves hiking with her dog and riding her horse on the trails around Niwot. "Niwot is a unique community," she said. "The businesses really support each other." She continued by stating that while Niwot is an unincorporated town, the volunteer dedication is what makes it so strong.

Be sure to say hello to Coonce at Rock & Rails at one of the remaining Thursday night concerts.
